A Tale of Magic | Chris Colfer
A Tale of Magic has a similar plotline to The Land of Stories series (also by Chris Colfer). The book takes place in a kingdom where magic is outlawed. Girls are not allowed to go to law school, read or really do anything but be a housewife. The main character is fourteen-year-old Brystal Evergreen. Brystal can read, and her brother smuggles her books. She poses as a maid in a library and stumbles upon a banned book. Brystal reads aloud phrase from it and finds out she is magic! Brystal is put in a hard labor camp, but then rescued by… the rest is for you to figure out! The plot contains witchcraft, magic, and some violence.
This book was exciting and fast-paced. A Tale of Magic has an exciting plot twist. I really liked it. This is a great book for all of those who loved the Land of Stories series.
